Lyrics: Dirty Looks

20 December, 2010

I read the words of a thousand books
And gave away my dirty looks
And I cleaned out all my cupboards
One by one

I quit the job that I hated most
My pockets full of hundred dollar notes
But there’s not enough to buy back
What I lost

Now I wash my hair and I clip my toes
I leave the room just to blow my nose
And I shower twice a day with soap

But I don’t feel clean like I thought I would
My sins don’t wash away so good
They stick to me like glue
Like glue

So I pack my bags and change my name
To something that nobody can say
And I’ll squander all my hard earned cash

I speak too slow when I’m most in need
Your skins too soft and your hearts too clean
To be caught up in this awful mess
With someone like me

Mini review: ‘Sydney to Newcastle’

17 December, 2010

Mellow instrumental on an old piano. Almost classical in feel. Ambient sounds from a train. It’s over too quickly.

Mini review: ‘Western’

17 December, 2010

A cowboy Mumford & Sons rock it hard with banjo and harmonica and fiddle. Some slightly incongruous Hammond. Who is singing?

Chords: Jesus Came To My Birthday Party

16 December, 2010

(Basic version for easy guitar…)

Capo 2nd fret.

To play the D6 put your pinky two frets up from your pointer finger in a standard open D chord.

The Bm is almost a B5 sometimes. You kind of just play mainly
the D and G strings. Also lift your ring finger a little bit to make kind of a B4. (Hopefully you can hear what I mean).

The * means a half bar, count two instead of four beats.

Verse 1:
  | D D6 D | Bm | x 2

  | G | Bm | x 3 (x 2 in verse 2)

  | A | Em | x 2

  | G Em | Bm | Bm |

Verse 2:
(Same as Verse 1 except only twice on the G Bm)

Chorus:
  | A | A | Bm |*

  | G | G | Bm |*

  | A | A |*

  | G Em | Bm | Bm |

Lead Break:
  (Same as Verse 1)

= Repeat Chorus =

= Repeat Chorus =

Lyrics: Jesus Came To My Birthday Party

16 December, 2010

Jesus came to my birthday party
When I was seventeen
I thought it was a dream
But I know I seen him standing there
With his long hair
I know I seen him there

That was a long time ago
And I haven’t seen him in a while
Now I’m down in the city
And I think I seen him in the eyes
Of the strangers that pass
In the eyes of the poor

Jesus came to my birthday party
When I was seventeen
It was a long time ago

Jesus came to my birthday party
When I was seventeen
It was a long time ago

Jesus came to my birthday party
I thought it was a dream
But I know I seen him there

Jesus came to my birthday party
A long time ago
